Professor Gerhard Huisken, Tübingen University, will present a lecture on 'Geometry and Gravity'.
Already in ancient Greece geometric concepts were used to describe the world around us. The lecture describes how classical geoemtric concepts such as conic sections and the isoperimetric problem reappear in the modern description of physical phenomena related to gravity, all the way to recent mathematical concepts for the mass of an isolated gravitating system such as a star or black hole in the context of Einsteins General Relativity Theory.
