Libraries face many changes in the digital environment. It is critical that libraries use their influence and expertise as a force for change and secure equitable access to knowledge, cultural heritage, and information for the library user community in the rapidly changing and competitive environment for information resources. Ingrid will outline the critical challenges and directions that are vital in our networked world.
Ms Ingrid Parent is President of the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA) and University Librarian at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. Since joining UBC Library in 2009, Parent has spearheaded a digital agenda that has included the hiring of a Director of Library Digital Initiatives and the opening of a new Digitization Centre. The Centre’s current priorities include the digitization of some of British Columbia’s earliest newspapers and using digital media to chronicle Chinese Canadian history.
Light refreshments will be served after the lecture.
