In this seminar Jim Della-Giacoma will talk about his work with International Crisis Group. Jim joined Crisis Group in April 2009 as South East Asia Project Director. He oversees the organization’s work in this region, including staff working on Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, and Timor-Leste. He has lived and worked in South East Asia since 1991 as a student, journalist, researcher, UN official, and development specialist. Prior to joining Crisis Group, his key positions included being an Associate Director at the Conflict Prevention and Peace Forum in New York (2006-2009), a senior advisor with the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (2003-2006), NDI’s Timor-Leste (East Timor) country director (2001-2003), a UN political affairs officer in New York, Dili, and Jakarta (1999-2000) as well as a correspondent with the AFP & Reuters news agencies in Jakarta (1994-1998). Among other things, he has researched and written on citizen participation, conflict prevention, corruption, democratization, elections, radicalization, and security sector reform. He holds a Bachelor in Economics (Political Economy) from the University of Sydney and a Masters in Asian Studies from the University of NSW.
