Dr Peter Wothers will be presenting his thought provoking, energetic and action packed show Just add Water. Water is all around us, most of the planet’s surface is covered with it and it is the main ingredient in you. In this exciting demonstration based lecture, Dr Wothers will explore some of the surprising properties and reactions of this substance you thought you knew so well. How can a drop of water start a fire or cause an explosion? Why can’t you put a chip pan fire out with water or boil an egg on Mount Everest? What is ‘heavy water’ and why is water blue? Come along and find out the answers to these questions and more! Warning: Loud bangs.
Dr Peter Wothers is currently Director of Studies in Chemistry at St Catharine’s College, Cambridge. He also sits on the Committee for the Chemistry Olympiad for the Royal Society of Chemistry and has spent the past ten years passing on his knowledge and enthusiasm for Science to a wider audience.
